It’s been a couple of months and I still can’t convince myself to login to any MMO games that I have access to. Although the happy news that Colin Johanson no longer works for ArenaNet and that Mike O’Brien is taking the game back to its rightful path, I’m still not convinced until I see real change in the game. Colin has a screwed-up definition of fun and I’m hoping that Mike will go back to the real definition of fun and actually put it into his game. I don’t really know why MO let CJ ruin the game before he steps in. It’s been quite obvious for a very long time that the game is going to a wrong direction. But enough of that. The removal of Colin still left me bored.
For the last couple of months, I’ve spent my time in trying to get all the achievements in Civ 5 only to find that there’s a lot of achievements that are broken with no intention from Firaxis that they’ll fix them anytime soon…lovely. Most of my game time are spent on mobile game like Clash Royale and Boom Beach. SuperCell is my new favorite game developer — they make good games and very free-player-friendly. I can enjoy the game without whipping out the debit card. Not to mention, their pricing for in-game resources is fair and generous. Compare to GW2 RNG, Clash Royale’s RNG is not stupidly broken that forces the player to purchase to get what they want. This is why the game is fun to play that even if I don’t win all the time, I still enjoy it. Not to mention the progression through the Arena is very funny at most, however they need to add some restrictions on which card can be used in each arena. For instance, if a player de-ranked from arena 4 to arena 3, they shouldn’t be allowed to use cards from arena 4. They should have an arena 3 appropriate deck ready just in case they de-ranked. That’s the only part of the game that is less fun. Playing against someone with cards that outpowered yours is not something I enjoy so I am more likely to just let them win instead of trying to win because there’s just no chance.
I’m still waiting for the right MMORPG that makes it fun to play without wasting my time. ArcheAge is a good game with a good combat and skills. but it’s not a free-player-friendly game. In order to do a lot of things, I have to be a Patron. If I’m going to spend that much money I’d rather play SWTOR or FFXIV. I can’t wait for Total War: Warhammer, I want to play it now.
