Dead MMOs

There are times when an aging MMO was able to revitalize, but there are times that certain MMO are just dead and cannot be brought back to life even through necromancy.

I’ve played World of Warcraft since Burning Crusade and looking at the Warlords expansion and the huge amount of repeatable “chores” is something I find to be a huge waste of time. Anyone who gave this expansion a shot will know what I’m talking about and I won’t go into details because, to be honest, some people find this kind of mind-numbing repetition “fun”. I bought the expansion when it was on sale and played the content with my main then that’s all it. The content is done with nothing more to do than “event hunting” which is something I despise while playing GW2.

Speaking of GW2, they have made some update to improves the Thief, but the update is not enough to put the Thief back to “fun” rather than “frustrating”. They’ve added gliding to central Tyria but I don’t really see a lot of people using it. I went back to Silverwaste and I only find half of the normal people there. I went to the new Shaterrer event only to find people complaining about it being buggy — it’s “teakettle” all over again. No hope for this game and I have been really hopeful since the departure of Chris Whiteside. Recently I’ve found out that my favorite artist, Kristen Perry, have left ArenaNet last September (2015). It is apparent that it’s time to move on.

So I’ve tried, Blade and Souls but the monetization cannot come any sooner and it feels like playing Aion all over again. I mean I like the combat and I accept the art style, but NCSoft has a tendency to get in the way of a good game.

Then Star Wars: the Old Republic released a new chapter (10) that I played for 2hrs. The thing I hate the most with this new approach to SWTOR is the fact that it no longer matters what your chosen class is or whether you’re a sith or not, the fucking emperor will give you access to force-freaking-lighting….how stupid, stupid is that? Yes, thanks to the emperor, the Bounty Hunter can shoot lightning. Total bullshit and immersion breaking.

Now, I’m left with MOBAs like Heroes of the Storm and SMITE. I can’t get serious with Hearthstone because it would mean that I would have to forked up the cash in order to compete against the try-hard-legendary-filled-decks. Whatever, I’m not dumping my paycheck to buy cards like what I used to with Magic: the Gathering.

After all that, I’m left with games that I have in my Steam Library and I have been watching for actual good games without all the bullshit that MMOs are coming up with these days. It’s been a long time that I have actually anticipated an upcoming game to a level that I’ve actually pre-ordered and purchased the game at midnight at GameStop — that was the Wrath of the Lich King.

It’s just sad that I’ve invested a lot of time with my characters in all the MMOs I’ve played only to leave them in a sad state. My Thief in GW2 will always be broken and I lost hope that it will ever be fixed. My Necro is ok, but do I really want to waste more time trying to gear him with Ascended? I have a lot of characters in SWTOR and I’m almost to Legendary Title, probably I’ll try to get the title and I’m done with the game. World of Warcraft is showcasing a good Legion expansion, but I am now skeptical at this point that I choose to do the same I did with Warlords — wait for it to go on sale.

As for now, Steam Library it is.
